One to One Project survives Soap Box Derby!
September 26, 2017
Thousands of people lined the streets of Hunstanton to watch the drama unfold at the 2017 Soap Box Derby, with 40 homemade go-karts careering through the town! Travelling from Boston Square, the karts had to overcome 90 degree bends, chicanes and a jump before completing the route at the mini roundabout!
Not scared of a challenge, the team at the One to One Project boldly submitted their application and began work on a rather unconventional go-kart! Calling ourselves “Imperial Leathered”, the kart resembled a giant soap bar, complete with shower head, bubble machines and the theme tune to Captain Pugwash on loop! Oh and the team dressed only in dressing gowns and shower caps!
I think it’s fair to say that we made a lasting impression on the crowd! What we lacked in speed we made up for in entertainment, with our first run presenting some steering problems! By run two the team had got to work fixing the issues and there was no stopping us!
It was a fantastic day! Great camaraderie between all the competitors and the atmosphere was brilliant! Thank you to “Team Leathered” (Hannah Cooper, Catherine Robinson, Steven Gould and Richard Waterfield) for their commitment and vision! Thanks also goes to our sponsors; Morton ATV, Lings Country Goods, E.N Suiter, Cubits Cycles, Bath Co., V&J Knitwear and Franklin Industrial Supplies.
It might well be our most absurd fundraising event to date but my goodness it was fun!
